A bit of background
Education: At around the time I was doing A-levels I realised I was an English Literature student. Instinctively I knew that literature was helping me in unforeseen ways. I was an angsty teenager in love with the Romantic poets – their poetry made me feel less alien, less alone. I went on to gain a BA in English Literature and Creative Writing.
But there was something missing from that undergrad degree. I found that something when I did my MA. It was a course called Reading in Practice. It was about reading on a practical, everyday human level; the transformative power of literature in life.
Currently, I’m studying part-time, for a degree in psychology.
Expert by Experience: Throughout my life I have seen various counsellors and psychologists, have been taught and also taught myself many different therapeutic modalities, skills, and tools.
My creative life has been geared towards self-understanding, emotional management, expressions of gratitude and gifts for others.
Work: I have met a wide range of people through the various roles I’ve had. I’ve been a cleaner, bar staff, youth worker, volunteer in addiction services, tutor, kitchen porter, teaching assistant, volunteer reader leader, and an expert by experience in mental health services. The people I’ve met and experiences I’ve had have taught me that we all have our own story, we all grow in different ways, and we all need to be able to access the right sort of support for ourselves to flourish.
